The Next Wave – The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists

Dr Clayton Barnes:

On behalf of the college, two of our main functions is education and advocates for patient care. There was a lot to like about the Choosing Wisely initiative. There's really no reason not to be involved with it, and it gave us the opportunity to get across to a wide audience five important points that we think both health professionals and patients should know about and question their doctor about.

If we could get everyone on board and to follow the recommendations, there’d be benefits both in terms of health and efficient use of the health dollar.

Well, our next priority to progress the campaign would be to effectively get the message out there and hopefully to further engage our members and the public to see whether it can change practice out there.
