The next wave of Choosing Wisely Australia® will launch on 16 March 2016.
The global initiative continues to expand and gain momentum in Australia in 2016. Medical colleges, societies and associations are uniting at the launch to take the lead on identifying over 50 medical tests, treatments and procedures that are of proven low value or carry an unnecessary risk. The organisations releasing their recommendations of “Five things clinicians and consumers should question” at the next wave launch are:
First wave member, The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, will be releasing their second list of recommendations at the March launch. And the launch will showcase work underway by first wave members to implement their Choosing Wisely recommendations.
Choosing Wisely Australia is facilitated by NPS MedicineWise, an independent, not-for-profit, evidence-based organisation that promotes quality use of medicines and medical tests. The Choosing Wisely initiative is health profession-led, consumer-centered and based on current evidence. The first wave of recommendations were announced by five medical colleges in April 2015.
